Green transition is reaching the marine ecosystems
Zero Emission Marine will develop technologies that will contribute to the emission reduction of different vessels and harbour operations. Themes contain direct development of green fuel technologies and production. Additionally, emission savings are generated through optimised automated vessel operations and business models based on energy efficiency and lifecycle services.
Technologies enabling introduction of green fuels
Development of technologies enabling the introduction of green fuels and their blends. Hydrogen, ammonia and biofuels engine solutions are developed including auxiliary and control systems as well as energy storage solutions.
Objective
- Develop the best technologies for Zero Emission Marine internal combustion engine (ICE) concepts for new builds and retrofits in combination with, or standalone, Energy Storage Solution
Green fuel production
Development of green fuel production and distribution systems for hydrogen, synthetic fuels and ammonia as well as carbon capture and utilisation for producing synthetic fuels.
Objective
- Find the most suitable Zero Carbon or negative carbon fuel possibilities considering the available engine technologies, fuel production.
Automated and optimised operations - increased level of autonomy
Design, develop and integrate systems enabling gradual transition from decision support, remote operation to autonomous operation throughout the navigation, ship operation and automation.
Objective
- Optimise the operation on fleet and vessel level to reduce energy consumption and related emissions, and increase the shared value in the ecosystem
Outcome-based business models
Create new business models for the ecosystem partners focusing on lifecycle emission reduction and energy efficiency.
Objective
- Enable lifecycle emission reductions through creation of business models based on co-sharing of profit and creation of added value
